Clinical Nutritional Services

Nutrition plays a pivotal role in health and disease. A balanced diet plays an even more important role in maintaining health for individuals with kidney disease. Most patients with kidney disease need to follow a low-sodium diet. Research shows that a high-protein diet may accelerate the progression of chronic kidney disease.

In addition, patients with advanced stages of kidney disease may have to limit potassium and phosphorus intake. The nutrition service at Miami Renal Institute offers counseling and surveillance to optimize nutritional status, slow progression of kidney disease, and treat metabolic derangements associated with kidney disease.
